Practical Information for Your Visit to Gomde

Welcome to Gomde Denmark, a sanctuary of Dharma and community nestled in serene natural beauty. Below you’ll find guidance to help you settle in and make the most of your time here, whether you’re attending a seminar, embarking on an individual retreat, or volunteering with us.

Arrival and Check-in
Check in with the retreat coordinators as soon as you arrive at Gomde. During check-in, you will be shown your sleeping area or where to set up your tent. You will also receive a small daily task (a yogi job) and essential information about walks, food, showers, and other practicalities. This process applies whether you are staying at Gomde or elsewhere.

The check-in area may change depending on the seminar, so look for clear directions upon arrival. If you plan to arrive a few days before the course begins, remember to check in as your first task upon arrival at Gomde.

Accommodation
Gomde consists of the main buildings close to the temple and Strandgaarden, located 15 minutes away by foot or 4 minutes by car.

If you have booked a single room, double room, or dormitory, you will be accommodated in either of these. During larger seminars, expect that accommodation may be at Strandgaarden. If commuting by car, please coordinate rides with others whenever possible.

Tent or Caravan
There are designated camping areas available. For caravans or wagons, the staff will direct you to a suitable spot. We cannot guarantee that there will be a power supply available for caravans.

Parking
Park along the designated areas near the road leading to Gomde, ensuring access for food deliveries and emergencies. Electric car charging is currently unavailable.

What to Bring
Rooms: Linen and towels are provided in single and double rooms.

Dormitory: Linen and towels can be rented for €15. Dormitories include a bed or mattress, duvet, and pillow.

Tent: Tent accommodations require you to bring your own sleeping gear.

Clothing: Gomde’s nature-rich surroundings and proximity to the ocean mean outdoor clothing and footwear are essential. Sandals or slippers are handy for moving between buildings.

Meditation Equipment: A limited number of cushions are available in the temple. Bring additional cushions if needed for comfort.

Donation for the Teachings
Seminar fees cover accommodation, meals, and maintenance. Teachings and empowerments are gifts, and it is customary to offer a monetary donation to the teacher. Donations can be made during registration or at the seminar’s end. We suggest that you bring cash, as availability of cash withdrawal options at Gomde cannot be guaranteed.

Meals
Three daily plant-based organic meals are served buffet-style. If the weather permits, meals can be enjoyed outside. For those with allergies or dietary restrictions, a general allergy-friendly meal is available. Consider bringing your own supplies for specific dietary needs, as additional requests cannot be accommodated.

Norlha House Boutique & Café
The Norlha Shop will be open daily during the seminar. See more about the Norlha Shop here

What to Expect

Volunteering at Gomde offers a unique and transformative experience that changes with the seasons. Winters are quiet and reflective, fostering solitude and contemplation, while summers are vibrant, social, and dynamic. The number of volunteers varies—sometimes there are many, other times just a few. Life at Gomde alternates between regular workdays and the different rhythms of seminars and retreats, each with its own schedule and atmosphere.

Daily life includes opportunities to join group practice in the temple during scheduled hours, share lunch with residents, guests, and fellow volunteers, and enjoy free time outside of work hours. Volunteering is more than just contributing—it’s an opportunity to deepen your meditation and dharma practice. If you seek guidance, Erik is available to discuss your practice and life, though his presence at Gomde cannot always be guaranteed.

Working at Gomde

Volunteer work generally takes place between 10:00 and 17:00, though the schedule may shift during seminars and events, requiring flexibility. Depending on the needs, you may work independently or as part of a team. Tasks include:

Indoor work: Cleaning, cooking, organizing, or assisting with specific projects.

Outdoor work: Gardening, maintaining the grounds, tidying up, or supporting construction and repairs.

During seminars and retreats, the focus is often on cooking, cleaning, and creating a supportive environment for participants. These events can be high-energy and fast-paced, where teamwork is key. If you enjoy collaborating in a dynamic setting, you’ll thrive here.
