Chanting in English

In Gomde Denmark the sadhanas are usually recited in English instead of the original Tibetan version, since it makes most sense to chant a practice text in a language we understand.

Bodhi Translations produces these chants as a group effort, which is guided by Erik Pema Kunsang. The chants are in verse, so we can sing them with a melodious tune and move through the sadhana in a graceful and heartfelt way. This is in accordance with the teaching of Padmasambhava.

Vajra Gathering

We already have a good amount of versified translations available, and the corpus is steadily growing. We regularly present a new sadhana translation in a Vajra Gathering, where Erik Pema Kunsang guides us through the text, line by line. Gradually, the texts, teachings and the additional practice material will be available on Bodhi Activity.

Response

Often we receive feedback from people who have been practicing in Tibetan transliteration for many years, saying they’re so happy to finally be able to practice while directly understanding what is recited.

Also people new to sadhana practice feel right away inspired and encouraged to engage in the group recitation, which is not only inviting and including, but also very beautiful and soothing. It just makes it so much easier to focus on what the practice really is about.
We feel that chanting in modern languages is very important for passing on the tradition in an authentic way.
