Most people have seen a picture of a person meditating.  Straight back, legs comfortably crossed, head balanced in extension of the spine, palms resting on the knees or in the lap. A body placed in a harmonious position. The body just sits and keeps doing it. Imitate this position yourself and now your body is sitting in meditation.

But you are not the body. You are in a body. It is not the body that meditates; it is the mind. Meditation is something that takes place in consciousness, which means that in you that perceives and thinks, feels and experiences. The body is your tool, your temporary home. The mind wants, the body does.

Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche explained that meditation means being able to be undisturbed when something happens. That is, your consciousness is capable of simply being. As this simple way of being continues, we can make use of special techniques so that our inner transcendent awareness and love unfolds.
